John Lum Architecture is positioned in a former laundry machine factory on 17th Street in the Mission District of San Francisco. The staff region & lounge, which is located on the second floor of the developing was fully gutted and recreated to serve as an area for staff use. By way of this project, they had been capable to reconfigured the space to greater meet their own needs whilst simultaneously using it as a study for the utilization of various finishes, colors and texture.  While the firm generally tends toward modern and sustainable design and style methods, when acceptable they also promote the historical preservation of certain websites and materials. The lounge and dining location above presents a all-natural and relaxed atmosphere where staff members can take a break and enjoy their meals. Each piece in the area is exquisite but one particular of my favorite objects is the steam bend wood sculpture by Ted Uran that is situated in front of the windows. The contemporary decor is blended nicely with the current structure which integrated the stunning wooden opened beam ceiling that was white washed.

The kitchen is a mix of stone, steel and wooden surfaces.  The perforated metal toe kick of the island appears somewhat translucent and is a striking contrast to the restored wooden (fir) floor. The backsplash of the kitchen area is a big steel-trowelled cement plaster (stucco) box that separates the kitchen and dining spaces from the two private offices positioned to the rear of the developing. To the sides of the kitchen area are ash veneered plywood doors that enclose the storage spaces. The space as a complete appears hugely livable however quite modern day with surprisingly warm components and textures.

To the interior of the steel troweled cement box is the bathroom featuring a salvaged claw foot tub, an open shower and massive skylight that fills the internal space with organic light. The faucets handles have been also salvaged and the steel sink basin has a modern and industrial searching hot rolled steel surround.
